The screenplay for the gay sci-fi love story The Verge of Seas has been selected as a semifinalist in the screenplay competition of the Oscar-accredited 2023 Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival. Finalists will be announced on October 9, 2023.

The Verge of Seas, written by Albert, is about a troubled gay man who discovers the shocking truth about himself and of the universe when his husband and adopted children mysteriously vanish on a trip to his childhood home in Montana.

Albert’s previous screenplay Incarnations won First Place in the Best Screenplay competition at the 2021 Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival.

Ranked as one of the top 10 festivals in the United States, Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival is a qualifying festival for the Live Action, Animation, and Documentary Short Film Academy Awards through its affiliation with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) and the Canadian Screen Awards. Eighty-four films that were either premiered or discovered at Rhode Island International Film Festival have gone on to receive Oscar nominations. From this pool, 14 have gone on to win the coveted award.
